My dream, and that of my fellow Board of Trustee members, has been to establish an institution of higher learning that will provide the new generation in Kuwait with practical skills and knowledge and allow them to make a strong contribution to this wonderful country. The Australian College of Kuwait (ACK) is the culmination of this dream. The key philosophy of ACK is ‘enabling human potential within a culture of care’. The Board of Trustees and the entire staff have embraced this philosophy and I am proud to say that all our actions at ACK are driven by this purpose. We want our students to be successful and to feel that they are important as individuals.

We are fortunate at ACK to have an excellent team of faculty and staff to deliver our programs. We have intentionally selected Australian institutions to be our partners and, uniquely in this country, our students are enrolled at both ACK and the partner institution. This gives them an internationally recognized qualification as well as assuring that the quality of our programs is constantly at world’s best practice. Part of our approach has been to recruit predominantly Australian faculty who are familiar with the education and training programs offered in Australia and therefore by ACK.

Competency-based training focuses on providing students with skills, knowledge and attitude. It is a proven way of providing our graduating students with practical skills and enabling them to be effective employees from their first day at work. I have seen the benefit of this approach in Australia and we are now successfully implementing this approach in Kuwait. We are also offering degree programs that build on the competency-based diploma courses. These degrees, although vocational in approach, develop critical thinking and problem solving capabilities in students using curriculum-based university courses.
