ACK Holds First HR Symposium on Training and Development in Kuwaiti Organizations

The School of Business at ACK organized the first Human Resources Symposium on Training and Development in Kuwaiti Organizations: Challenges and Opportunities on Wednesday December 4, 2019. This symposium was sponsored by Kuwait Foundations for Science and Advancement. This symposium allowed participants to evaluate the challenges facing Kuwaiti organizations in relation to training design and effectiveness, and how organizations prepare themselves to address future training needs. In the global market competition, training and development can shape future practices including innovation, creativity and performance, thereby providing a great platform to debate the role of employees training to quality of learning, talent and leadership development, and diversity enhancement.

The Symposium began with a welcome speech from the President of ACK, Prof. Isam Zabalawi and followed by the Chair Committee, Dr. Hussain Alhejji, who welcomed the audience and invited the international keynote speakers Prof. Thomas Garavan, Dr. Valerie Anderson and Dr. Ronan Carbery to the stage. Each keynote speaker presented various challenges in relation to learning and development in the organizational context and provided several recommendations for research and practice.

After the break, two panel discussions were held consisting of HR and training managers from different companies in Kuwait which were chaired by Dr. Hussain Alhejji and Ms. Sapheya Aftimos, respectively. The panelists included Mr. Husain Sanasiri, Ms. Ghada Aref El Kadi, Mr. Mohammed Alhadad, Mr. Mostafa Nassef, Ms. Dalal Dawwas, and Mr. Najem Mhawsh. These experts shared with the audience their experiences with regards to the challenges and opportunities encountering Kuwaiti organizations while implementing and designing training and development practices. Both panel discussions were followed by question and answer session.

Upon the conclusion of the HR symposium, the attendees had the opportunity to network with the speakers and ask further questions. ACK students and alumni were very interested in the information they gained from the international speakers and local managers.
