Reduced Academic Load
A reduced academic load is defined as per the parameters in the Student Academic Load Policy. A student can be granted a reduced academic load under the following circumstances:
  • Students who have been issued an Academic Warning, Probation or Final Probation with a GPA below 2.00
  • Students who have disabilities can apply for a reduced load through an online request submitted by the LD unit to SIS (Student Information System).

How to request a reduced load

Student seeking to reduce their load must make a request using the Academic Load Reduction Request Form at least 5 days before the last day of the published Drop period and obtain the approval of their Academic Advisor and Head of Department. The request must then be submitted online to the SIS unit.

Students who are granted a reduced load continue to be bound by ACK’s policies and procedures and are expected to complete their studies within a maximum of eight academic semesters. Students should acknowledge that reducing study load may impact their ability to complete their program within the required timeframes.

Tuitions fees associated with a reduced-load are determined in accordance with ACK’s fee structure and relevant financial policies. Being on reduced load may affect a student’s scholarship status.

Academic Over-load
An over-load is defined as per the parameters in the Student Academic Load Policy.  A student is eligible for an over-load under the following circumstances:
  • The student has earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50/4.00
  • The student is expected to graduate

How to request an overload

Eligible students seeking an over-load must make a request using the Academic Load Increase Request Form at least 5 days before the last day of the published Add period and obtain the approval of their Academic Advisor and Head of Department and then submitted through an online request to SIS.

A student who is granted an over-load continues to be bound by ACK’s policies and procedures. Even if the request for a load increase is approved, registration in the requested courses will be conditional and subject to class availability.

Tuitions fees associated with an over-load are determined in accordance with ACK’s fee structure and relevant financial policies.
